We are the Trask Family. Robin and I have been married since 1994, and serving the Lord in full time service since that time. We have four children, Kayla, Levi, Lydia and Aaron, who each worked with us in the ministry up until they graduated from high school and moved back to the US.

In November of 2007, the Lord confirmed to us that His will was for us to begin working in this region of Honduras with Bro. Larry and Mrs. Judy Sexton, who had been working here for over 20 years, teaching and preaching the Gospel.

We began deputation in January of 2008, and in August of that year, took our survey trip. The Lord blessed and we were able to raise over 90% of our needed support by June of 2009, and we left to spend a year just outside of Auguascalientes, Mexico, taking Spanish classes, and working in a local church there.

We returned to the US in June of 2010 and in September of that year, we moved to the city of Puerto Lempira, which is the capital of Gracias a Dios, where we rented a house for the first year and a half. During this time, we helped in a small mission church in one of the neighborhoods there in town, while also working to construct our house on property we were able to purchase in the village of Kaukira(spelled Cauquira on the map), which is across the Bay.

In April of 2012, we were able to move to Kaukira, in the barrio or neighborhood of Kingankan. In January of 2013, the Lord allowed us to start Prers Watla Baptis Dawan Bila, or the Baptist Church of the Bible, here in Kaukira. In addition to this, we have been able to purchase land adjoining to our property, and have been able to build a dormitory as well as a kitchen for the Miskito Baptist Bible Institute, or El Instituto Bíblico Bautista Miskito. We have had several faithful men who have graduated, who are preaching and working to start churches in several villages.

One of these men is Nichin. Nichin was saved not long after we arrived in Honduras, and has been a faithful student of the Word, and has graduated from the Bible Institute. He was able to preach and pastor the church here in Kaukira while we were on our first furlough, and has been working in the villages of Pansana and Krausirpi, along the Patuca River, for several years, preaching and sharing the gospel with the people in that area.  The church here in Kaukira is supporting him as a missionary until a church there can be established.

In February of 2015, Bro. Sexton turned the work here in La Moskitia over to us. Since that time, we have been able to help start 5 mission churches in different villages in this region. We have continued to offer Bible Institute classes to men who feel called to preach, as well as Bible classes that are open to anyone who wants to attend, men and women, even young people. Our desire is to train not only pastors but leaders and church workers as well. We are praying for the Lord to continue to send us men who have a burden to study to be a pastor and help build the churches in the villages that we have begun working in.

Although our grasp of the Spanish language was enough to start the ministry here, for us to truly be able to share the Gospel and teach the people the truths of the Word of God, we felt the need to learn their language, the Miskito dialect. Most of the young people speak and understand some Spanish, but there are adults and older folks who know very little beside their native tongue of Miskito. I have been studying the Miskito language with one of our young preachers and am now able to teach and preach in mostly Miskito, which is helping the people and students to understand more and more. We praise the Lord for His help with learning the language and hope to continue to become more fluent as we continue to use it.

The region of La Mosquitia has been inundated with religion for many years, and there are currently 7 or 8 churches of varying denominations here in Kaukira, but none of these preach the true doctrines of the Bible or that salvation is by grace, through faith alone in the shed blood of Jesus Christ. It is our desire to share the truth of God's Word with these people who are greatly confused and deceived by false doctrines and practices.

In 2020, we were able to get 10,000 Miskito whole Bibles, and have begun to distribute these throughout the region. It has been amazing to watch the Lord work in hearts as people have begun to not only hear the truth, but to see it for themselves in their own language, thru the first whole Bible that most of them have ever had. We praise the Lord that we have begun to see fruit in this last year, with several folks seeing, hearing and understanding the gospel and responding by asking the Lord to save them. We are beginning to disciple these new converts and encouraging them to continue to read and study the Word.
We are praying that the Lord will continue to do a great work in opening blinded eyes to the truth of His Word.

Please help us pray that the Lord will continue to move and work in the churches here, that those who have been saved will grow in grace, and in the knowledge of the Lord. And as we continue to train men for the ministry, that they will be able to preach and teach their own people, rightly dividing the Word of truth.

There is much work to be done here in La Mosquitia, so many who have yet to hear a clear presentation of the true Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the way of salvation thru Him.

Thank you for your prayers for us and the work here in La Mosquitia,

Gene and Robin Trask
