We are Gene and Robin Trask, and we have been working in the region of La Moskitia, Honduras since September of 2010. The Miskito Indians inhabit this region, and while the national language is Spanish, the Miskito dialect is still mostly used in homes and schools and churches in this area.
After a year of language school in Mexico, we began our ministry here with our 4 children, and began working to learn the Miskito language. Our children have since grown and moved back to the States, leaving us to continue the work with the Lord's help.
Since our beginning in 2010, the Lord has allowed us to build a house in the village of Cauquira, Gracias a Dios, as well as establish the Prers Watla Baptis Dawan Bila, or Baptist Church of the Bible. We have also worked training several national pastors in a 3 year Bible Institute. In the last couple of years, we have opened some of the general Bible classes up to anyone in the area that would like to come and learn, and have seen several folks from the area and from our church that have attended these classes.
Our recently walled-in compound includes our house, the church, a kitchen and dormitory for the Bible Institute, as well as a pump house or bodega that houses our diesel generator and battery system, as well as water pumps from the well. We also have solar panels that contribute to our electricity. Travel here is either by boat, 4 wheeler, or the off-road jeep the Lord blessed us with.
The Lord has allowed us to work with several Miskito pastors, who are preaching and teaching in different villages, working to establish “mission churches”.
We also have been working and have a burden for the Patuca River area of La Moskitia, where there are many unreached villages that need the Gospel.
In 2023, the Lord blessed us to be able to get a Gospel Tent, and begin having “Bible Revivals” under the tent in different villages. We have been able to give out hundreds of Miskito Whole Bibles. In learning more and more of the Miskito language, we are realizing that the translation work was very poorly done. We are praying about the need to retranslate it more accurately, but for now are asking the Lord to use the Word that we do have, to continue to reach the Miskito people.
This area, while growing more technologically advanced, is still very primitive and suffers greatly from illiteracy and many years of tradition and false doctrine being taught and preached, and has much ecumenical confusion in the churches.
It is our burden and desire to teach and preach directly from the Word of God, “rightly dividing the word of truth” so that lost souls can realize that not good works, baptism, church membership nor any other ritual will get them into Heaven, but that only by repentance and faith in the finished work of Christ, can salvation be obtained.
We covet your prayers for us and the ministry here, and if you would like to follow our work please go to the Updates page and click the link to view our prayer letters.
